A star is born in the West End!
Elena Roger makes the leap from her
home in Argentina to Evita in London.
Don't cry for her, Argentina! Buenos Aires hometown gal Elena Roger beat out a striking list of British and American leading ladies to land the role of her career: Eva Peron in the first-ever West End revival of Evita. The petite, personable actress made her first media appearance alongside composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and director Michael Grandage at the Langham Hotel on January 31, singing “Don't Cry for Me Argentina” (with Lloyd Webber on piano) and chatting up the press, with the occasional help of a translator. With one of Britain's most talked-about directors at the helm, this new Evita promises a “new Argentina” when it starts performances at the Adelphi Theatre on June 2.
