Tom Stoppard's Rock 'N' Roll, which is currently in its final weeks in the West End, is to transfer to Broadway this autumn, according to Variety. Trevor Nunn will direct the show, as he did the original London production.
Rock 'N' Roll relates the recent history of Czechoslovakia between the Prague Spring and the Velvet Revolution from the double perspective of Prague, where a rock ‘n' roll band comes to symbolise resistance to the communist regime, and the British Left, represented by a communist philosopher at Cambridge.
[AD]The play debuted at the Royal Court Theatre in 2006 and subsequently moved to the Duke of York's Theatre, where it will end its run on 25 February. Although the opening night cast featured Rufus Sewell—who won the 2006 Evening Standard Best Actor award for his role as Czech dissident Jan—Brian Cox and Sinead Cusack, Rock ‘N' Roll currently stars Dominic West, David Calder and Emma Fielding. No casting or theatre has been announced for the Broadway production.
