 Patrick Stewart

The Chichester Festival Theatre’s sell-out production of Macbeth, starring Patrick Stewart, is to transfer to London’s Gielgud Theatre from 24 September, where it will run for a 10-week season to 1 December. Its transfer to the Gielgud has been made possible by the relocation from that venue of the originally slated musical Desperately Seeking Susan, which is now set to open at the Novello Theatre on 12 October instead.
As previously reported, Macbeth has been running at Chichester since 1 June. Featuring alongside Stewart in the title role are Paul Shelley, Kate Fleetwood, Martin Turner and Michael Feast.
The play is directed by Rupert Goold, most recently represented in the West End by his production of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie at the Apollo Theatre. He also helmed the RSC production of The Tempest (which starred Patrick Stewart as Prospero) that was recently seen at the Novello Theatre.
[AD]The company also includes Scott Handy (Malcolm), Ben Carpenter (Donaldbain), Mark Rawlings (Lennox), Tim Treloar (Ross), Bill Nash (Angus), Christopher Knott (Old Seyward), Christopher Patrick Nolan (Porter and Seyton), Hywel John (Bloody Captain), Suzanne Burden (Lady Macduff), Polly Frame, Niamh McGrady and Laura Rees (witches) and Oliver Birch (Cream-Faced Loon).
