Anthony Flanagan has withdrawn from the West End revival of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross due to “personal reasons.” The production, which was schedule to open on 10 October, will now have its press night on 12 October.
Flanagan was playing the role of salesman John Williamson. He is being replaced by Peter McDonald, who began rehearsals on 8 October.
McDonald’s theatre credits include Exiles and The Aristocrats for the National Theatre, Resurrection Blues for the Old Vic, Days of Wine and Roses and A Lie of the Mind for the Donmar Warehouse, The Lieutenant of Inishmore at the Garrick Theatre and The Wexford Trilogy for the Tricycle Theatre. His television credits include The Family Man, Sea of Souls, The Plot to Kill Hitler, Green Wing and Spooks. He has appeared in the films Nora, I Went Down, Saltwater (for which he won best actor at the Irish Film and Television Awards), The Henchman's Tales, Felicia's Journey and November Afternoon.
In addition to McDonald, the cast of James Macdonald’s production, which is playing at the Apollo Theatre, features Jonathan Pryce (Shelly Levene), Aidan Gillen (Richard Roma), Paul Freeman (George Aaronow), Matthew Marsh (Dave Moss), Tom Smith (James Lingk) and Shane Attwooll (Baylen).
