The national tour of High School Musical 2 will cast its lead (the character Troy Bolton) via a national televison reality show. Auditions to participate in the competition are set to be held in London on April 19 and 20. Chosen finalists will then perform live on GMTV with the viewing audience voting for their favorite performer. The winner will be announced on May 8 and will then go on to star as Troy. The stage version of the popular Disney movie begins performances at the New Wimbledon Theatre on August 22.

High School Musical 2 Live on Stage! is directed by Jeff Calhoun and features a book by David Simpatico, who also adapted the stage version of the original High School Musical. The story follows the East High Wildcats—Troy, Gabriella, Taylor and Chad—as they start their summer jobs at an exclusive country club. The action builds up to the country club's Midsummer Night's Talent Show, complete with squabbling, testing friendships and double-crossing. The musical features the songs from the chart-topping film soundtrack, including "What Time Is It?", "You Are the Music" and "Fabulous".

Following the run at the New Wimbledon, the tour will then play the Plymouth Theatre Royal (September 7-12), Sheffield Lyceum (September 14-19), Oxford New Theatre (September 21-26), Manchester Opera House (September 28-October 10), Brighton Centre (October 15-18), Wolverhampton Grand Theatre (October 20-24), Southampton Mayflower (October 26-November 7), Leeds Grand Theatre (November 9-14), Belfast Opera House (November 16-21) and Birmingham Alexandra (December 15-January 2).

The production features choreography by Lisa Stevens and scenic design by Kenneth Foy. The cast is still to be announced. The musical is produced by Stage Entertainment U.K. Ltd. in association with Disney Theatrical Productions.
