The West End came alive with The Sound of Music on 15 November. That is when the much-talked about new production of the beloved musical opened at the London Palladium. Why all the talk? Well, for starters the lead, Connie Fisher, was chosen by a public vote on the reality TV programme, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? Add opera star Lesley Garrett and producer Andrew Lloyd Webber in with the telly hype, and you have a quite a lot to be excited about. The cast, which also includes Alexander Hanson (stepping in at the last minute for Simon Shepherd, who withdrew from the production at the start of previews), company and many familiar faces headed to Old Billingsgate Market after the first night performance to celebrate. Cheers to this smashing new take on a classic show!
