Alan Bennett’s funny and touching The History Boys made a triumphant West End debut at Wyndham’s Theatre on 3 November. The show, directed by Nicholas Hytner, originated at the National Theatre in 2004 and went on to become a smash hit, eventually transferring to Broadway and winning the coveted Tony Award for Best Play. It was also made into successful radio and film versions. Now back on the British stage, the current production features its recent, top-flight touring cast, among them Isla Blair (Mrs. Lintott), Orlando Wells (Irwin) and Stephen Moore, ably stepping into the part of Hector, which was first made famous by Richard Griffiths. The company took their bows and then headed to the posh One Aldwych Hotel for rounds of champagne and cheers.
