The peerless director was celebrated anew this week—at least in effigy form—as actors Robert Portal and Rachel Pickup, stars of the West End’s wondrous, comic adaptation of Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps donned stage mufti and hastened to Madame Tussaud’s with a birthday cake for the great man on 13 August. It would have been Hitchcock’s 100th birthday, and tributes and celebrations are taking place worldwide, of which this charming scenario was one.
