Sally Dexter will join the cast of Billy Elliot on 5 June. She is replacing Olivier-nominated performer Haydn Gwynne in the role of Billy’s dance teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson.
Dexter was most recently on the London stage playing a theatre critic in Theatre of Blood at the National Theatre last summer. Her other roles at the National include the original London production of Patrick Marber’s Closer, The Threepenny Opera, The Recruiting Officer, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. Her last musical was Oliver! in Sam Mendes’ revival at the London Palladium.
Also joining the cast on 5 June is Sara Pyzer (making her West End debut), taking over as Billy’s late mum. There will also be a new team of ballet girls, plus a new Debbie, 10-year-old Leyci Wightman, and a new Michael, 11-year-old Shaun Malone.
The current cast of Billy Elliot includes Philip Whitchurch (Dad), Chris Lennon (Tony), Ann Emery (Grandma), Paul Broughton (George), Alex Delamere (Mr Braithwaite), Isaac James (Older Billy). They join Colin Bates, Leon Cooke, Matthew Koon, Liam Mower and Travis Yates who alternate the title role of Billy Elliot.
