The long-running West End revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb’s
Chicago is launching a new national tour at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre on 27 September.
The cast will be led by Jennifer Ellison as Roxie Hart, reprising the performance she gave to great success in the London production, opposite Dawn Spence as Velma Kelly. Spence’s West End appearances include roles in
Grease,
Smokey Joe’s Cafe,
Sunset Boulevard,
Follies and
Cats, and who has recently starred in a national tour of
Anything Goes.
The cast will also feature George Asprey, (TV’s Waking the Dead and film The Greatest Game Ever Played) as Billy Flynn, Dale Meeks(TV’s Emmerdale), as Amos Hart, and Katy Secombe (Les Miserables) as Mama Morton.
The tour will play Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester, Sunderland, Southport, Nottingham, York, Grimsby, Southampton, Norwich, Plymouth, Oxford, Glasgow, Stoke-on-Trent, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, Belfast, Bristol, Sheffield, Canterbury, Eastbourne and Blackpool. All actors are contracted for the entire tour, except Ellison who will appear in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester, Sunderland, Nottingham, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent and Liverpool only. Meeks will not be appearing in Nottingham, York and Grimsby only. The tour is currently booking dates to 8 September 2007.
