Lisa Donmall is succeeding Amra Faye-Wright as Velma Kelly in the London production of
Chicago from 20 November. She is contracted to play the role to 10 December at the Cambridge Theatre.
Donmall has previously played the role in the U.K. and international touring company. She also appeared in the London company at the Adelphi Theatre as a swing and understudied (and went on as) the role of Roxie Hart. The London and New York-trained dancer studied at Bridget Espinosa’s London Studio Centre and the Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey School in New York. Her stage credits include the National’s production of Once in a Lifetime, The Producers (understudying and playing Ulla), My Fair Lady (at the National and Drury Lane), Sweet Charity (at the Victoria Palace), the national tour of Crazy for You (understudying and playing the lead role of Polly Baker) and the U.K. tour of Cats.
She joins a cast that currently also includes Josefina Gabrielle as Roxie Hart, Ian Kelsey as Billy Flynn, Julian Sims as Amos Hart and Brenda Edwards as Mama Morton.
