The Variety Club of Great Britain awarded the 2006 Variety Club Showbiz Theatre Award to the London cast of
Avenue Q. The entire cast collected the award at the London ceremony on 19 November, presented at Old Billingsgate on Lower Thames Street. The ceremony will be broadcast on Sky Three (a cable channel) on 26 November.
The Variety Club only gives one award to theatre. It chose Avenue Q above all the other new musicals that have opened this year, including Wicked, Spamalot and Dirty Dancing. Avenue Q is currently running at the Noel Coward Theatre.

"The Variety Club Showbusiness Awards reward the outstanding talent of 2006. We cherish our relationship with the entertainments industry,” Ronnie Nathan, chief barker of the Variety Club said in a statement. “This very special event is our opportunity to thank and celebrate some of its most prominent representatives and through them, all the celebrities who do so much work for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the U.K.”
