Connie Fisher has returned to her starring role as Maria in
The Sound of Music after a
previously reported enforced medical absence took her out of the show for two weeks (from 5-17 March). On doctor’s orders, the actress will now only play six shows a week instead of eight. The new schedules goes into effect from the week commencing 26 March, when she will not play Monday evening or Wednesday matinee performances.
Fisher will now share the role with fellow How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? finalist Aoife Mulholland. Mulholland will come to The Sound of Music direct from playing Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre, where she is appearing until 31 March. Until Mulholland joins the company, Fisher’s understudy Sophie Bould will play Maria at the performances when Fisher does not appear.
“I am thrilled that Connie has returned to the show, fit and well, and welcome Aoife, who gave a sensational audition,”
The Sound of Music co-producer Andrew Lloyd Webber said in a statement.
Fisher has now also extended her contract in the show to the autumn. The Sound of Music is currently booking to 13 October
