Samuel West
Samuel West
Samuel West, Toby Stephens and Dervla Kirwan have been announced as the stars of the Donmar Warehouse’s production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. As previously reported, the play, directed by Roger Michell, begins previews on 31 May and opens on 4 June.

Pinter’s 1978 work revolves around an affair which entagles married couple Emma (Kirwan) and Robert (West) and their close friend Jerry (Stephens), who is also married. The seven-year affair is played out in reverse—from its poignant end to its illicit first kiss.

West's many theatre acting credits include The Browning Version at the Birmingham Rep, Les Parents Terribles at the Orange Tree Theatre, The Bread-Winner at the Theatre Royal, Windsor A Life in the Theatre at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, Arcadia and Antony and Cleopatra at the National, the title roles in both Richard II and Hamlet for the RSC, The Master and Margarita at Chichester Festival Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing at the Crucible Theatre and The Exonerated at Riverside Studios.

Stephens’ stage appearances include Hamlet, Measure for Measure, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Coriolanus, Unfinished Business, Wallenstein and All’s Well That Ends Well for the RSC, Tartuffe at the Playhouse Theatre, A Streetcar Named Desire and The Royal Family at the Haymarket, and Britannicus and Phedre, both of which played at the Almeida and the Brooklyn Academy. Film and TV includes Die Another Day, Orlando, The Camomile Lawn and A View From The Bridge.

[AD]Kirwan is perhaps best known for her TV role in the enormously popular series Ballykissangel. The Irish actress also starred alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst in several series of the BBC's nostlagic sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart. Her previous London theatre credits include Dangerous Corner at the Garrick in 2002 and Aristocrats at the Lyttelton in 2005.

Betrayal will run at the Donmar to 21 June.
