Three performances of
The Lord of the Rings have been cancelled due to an injury to a cast member during the show, according to the BBC. The musical, which officially opens on 19 June at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, will reportedly resume performances on 2 June.
An ensemble member was hurt at the 30 May performance of the new musical when he caught his leg in the revolving hydraulic stage in the first act. The show was halted when the injury occurred and that performance was cancelled. The creative team is reportedly making adjustments to the show at this time.
The Lord of the Rings, which is based on the popular books by J.R.R. Tolkien, features music by composer A.R. Rahman (
Bombay Dreams) and Finland's contemporary folk group Värttinä with Christopher Nightingale and book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna and director Matthew Warchus. The 50-strong cast features Malcolm Storry, Laura Michelle Kelly, Jerome Pradon and James Loye.
