A weeklong series of events will comprise Hitchcock Week, being staged to mark anniversaries for the current West End production of
The 39 Steps, as well as the release date of the original Alfred Hitchcock film and birthdays for both Hitchcock and novelist John Buchan.
Running from 13 to 19 August, Hitchcock Week will coincide with both the 108th anniversary of Hitchcock’s birth on 13 August and of the opening of the current London stage production on 14 August. The anniversary of the original release date of the 1935 film is 1 August, and 29 August marks the 132nd anniversary of John Buchan’s birth.
The week’s celebrations will include a cast reading of the book at Waterstone’s bookshop in Piccadilly on 17 August and a screening of the Hitchcock film at Hampstead’s Everyman cinema on 19 August. In addition, there will be events at the Imperial War Museum (on 13 August), a Science of Spying trip with Ducktours from the Science Museum to the Criterion (on 15 August), and special performances of the show on 14 August (including a pre-matinee meal and a post-evening performance dinner at the Ritz Hotel on 14 August with a special
39 Steps menu) and 16 August (followed by party and birthday cake).
