Connie Fisher
Connie Fisher and Alistair McGowan will star in a new production of They’re Playing Our Song. The musical, which features a book by Neil Simon, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, begins previews at the Menier Chocolate Factory on July 25. Opening night is set for August 4.

They’re Playing Our Song is a semi-autobiographical story based on the relationship between Hamlisch and Bayer Sager. It tells the story of Vernon Gersch, a neurotic and successful composer with a host of awards. He is paired up with the lovely Sonia Walsk, a young lyricist who is a hopeless time-keeper and dresses in cast-off theater costumes. The unlikely pairing seems destined to falter before it begins. Can Vernon’s egotistical bachelor lifestyle cope with Sonia’s ex-boyfriend and her multiple personalities? As their working relationship grows, however, so do their feelings for each other and romance blossoms.

Connie Fisher became a familiar face and name when she won the television talent competition How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? She went on to star as Maria in the West End revival of The Sound of Music. Alistar McGowan recently concluded a run as the Emcee in the West End revival of Cabaret. His other stage credits include The Mikado and Little Shop of Horrors.

This revival marks the first major London production since the show's premiere in 1980. The limited engagement ends September 28.
